The worst thing about braces is that there are certain foods you cannot eat until they are off. Not to worry! We have you covered with delicious soft food recipes you can try to tide you over. In fact, if you try out all of our suggestions, you may be eating better than ever before!

The key to making a crab cake to die for is fresh crab—if you can get it. If not, get the best canned lump crab you can find, and make sure the pieces aren’t too big or the cake won’t hold together. This is really a lovely crab cake recipe whether you are using fresh crab direct from the sea or the tinned variety. If you are using frozen, be sure to completely defrost and drain before you begin.

(Makes four servings)

INGREDIENTS NEEDED:
-2 slices white bread, crusts removed and crumbled
-2 tablespoons mayonnaise
-2 teaspoons of your favorite seafood seasoning or spice blend
-2 teaspoons parsley flakes
-1/2 teaspoon prepared yellow mustard
-1 egg, beaten
-1 pound lump crabmeat

PREPARATION:
Mix bread, mayonnaise, seafood seasoning spices, parsley, mustard and egg in large bowl until well blended. Gently stir in crabmeat. Shape into 4 patties.

Broil 10 minutes without turning or fry until golden brown on both sides. Sprinkle with additional seasoning, if desired.

Serve with cornbread or coleslaw.
